We have received a pledge from an anonymous donor to contribute 1,500 USD to bring the Pakistani applicant to Cologne (our only participant from that country). According to Annette Wachter, Co-President of Games Cologne, ?With 6,500 registered participants, we remain on schedule for registration. Taking the credit crunch into consideration, this is a fantastic result and we are looking positively ahead to this coming July and August.? Registrations have come from all over the world including countries like Japan, Afghanistan, and Madagascar. The largest sports by registration are currently swimming, football (soccer) and volleyball. Sports Coordinator Dagmar Ziege is particularly happy about the huge demand for football (soccer). An avid soccer player herself, Ziege is the chief organizer of all sports competitions. ?To be feasible, the Gay Games needs strong partners. I want to express my appreciation towards the City Council of Cologne, especially the sports department, the Cologne Natatorium ltd., and the German Sport University. I want to thank all of them for the amazing teamwork. The competitions are mainly taking place in their facilities. The cooperation amongst the different departments will prove the image of Cologne as the place to be for any kind of sport for more than 10,000 active sportsmen and women.? Some sports are nearing their target numbers, including Road Races and Triathlon. Extra slots will be created for these sports, but this will not be possible in all sports, so register now to be sure to participate in the sport of your choice. Note that you can sign up your relay team on site in Cologne. Track and Field organizers ? These events will be run by the regional German track and field federation, which runs five meets each year, including some at NetCologne Stadium at Sportpark Muengersdorf, the venue for Gay Games VIII Track and Field. Bowling ?
